I was on Rivals UT site looking at one of the board members personal sites. He's got a room that's like a shrine to UT football. All kinds of autographed photo's, helmets, newspaper articles. I was looking at one of the newspaper articles and noticed something pretty interesting. Funny to think that the Knoxville News Sentinel would be doing a story on one of the things on that front page.

Damn, what year was that. I guess it was probably 71, not for sure though, can't see the date. That is kinda odd that Appy would be in the Knoxville NS.

And that Penn State isnt wearing what many of us would think of as traditonal PSU helmets.

Helmets like that weren't that unusual even for PSU in the early 70's. If you look back alot of teams had the numbers on the sides like that.

I would imagine the Appy article was of interest to the KNS because Turner would have been one of their leading recruits. If you look about half-way down the article it has a sub-heading Turner, Guerry ranked among USLTA top 20 .

I know that the numbered helmets have been common, but I never remembered seeing tape or photos of those for PSU. I always think of the single stripe.
